Bella Comsom

Bella Comsom is a Brazilian transdisciplinary artist and researcher working at the intersection of sound, technology, and perception. Her work investigates the materiality of sound through conceptual composition and experimental electronics, with a focus on electromagnetic fields. Using custom-built antennas, she transforms the inaudible into immersive auditory experiences across installations, audiovisual works, radio art, and live performance.
"Catching without capturing", immersing herself in natural contexts, tracking electromagnetic waves with her body, translating imperceptible data into tangible, light into sound and vice versa are at the core of her artistic practice. Guided by a fractal thinking - which connects different ways of navigating time-space - she nurtures the development of tools, techniques and devices that help reveal the ‘imperceptible’. This foundation is expressed in multi-sensory experiences involving sound, light and movement.
Throughout her career, she co-created and participated in meteoro (2015), a project that brought together women and non-binary people from the sound arts community in Rio de Janeiro. Awarded by Ibermúsicas (2022), she conceived SO(Ñ)AR, a project that united Latin American women to create compositions inspired by dreams. Furthermore, she collaborates as sound designer with projects related to dance, cinema, and new media.
Bella Comsom has worked with and exhibited in contexts such as Museum of Tomorrow, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Digital Art Biennial, Oi Futuro (AMPLIFY), Sonic Matter Festival, Festival Poesía en Voz Alta (Casa del Lago UNAM) and Deutschlandfunk Radio. International residencies such as CTM Music Makers Hacklab (Berlin, DE), City as Forest (BR), Radio Art Residency Weimar (DE), Oceánica (Tsonami Arte Sonoro + Líquen Lab, CL) and Sound Art Lab (DK). In 2022, she completed her Master 's Degree in Music, in the field of Sonology, at the University of Sao Paulo, and is now pursuing a second Master at Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln.

Bella Comsom é artista e pesquisadora transdisciplinar brasileira que atua na interseção entre som, tecnologia e percepção. Seu trabalho investiga a materialidade do som por meio da composição conceitual e da eletrônica experimental, com foco em campos eletromagnéticos. Utilizando antenas construídas por ela mesma, transforma o inaudível em experiências auditivas imersivas através de instalações, obras audiovisuais, arte radiofônica e performances ao vivo.
“Captar sem capturar”, imergir-se em contextos naturais, rastrear ondas eletromagnéticas com o próprio corpo, traduzir dados imperceptíveis em algo tangível, luz em som e vice-versa, estão no cerne de sua prática artística. Guiada por um pensamento fractal — que conecta diferentes formas de navegar pelo tempo-espaço — ela fomenta o desenvolvimento de ferramentas, técnicas e dispositivos que ajudam a revelar o ‘imperceptível’. Essa base se expressa em experiências multissensoriais envolvendo som, luz e movimento.
Ao longo de sua trajetória, co-criou e participou do meteoro (2015), projeto que reuniu mulheres e pessoas não-binárias da cena de artes sonoras do Rio de Janeiro. Premiada pelo Ibermúsicas (2022), idealizou SO(Ñ)AR, projeto que uniu mulheres latino-americanas na criação de composições inspiradas por sonhos. Além disso, colabora como designer de som em projetos ligados à dança, cinema e novas mídias.
Bella Comsom já trabalhou e apresentou seus trabalhos em instituições como o Museu do Amanhã, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Bienal de Arte Digital, Oi Futuro (AMPLIFY), Sonic Matter Festival, Festival Poesía en Voz Alta (Casa del Lago UNAM) e na rádio Deutschlandfunk. Participou de residências internacionais como CTM Music Makers Hacklab (Berlim, DE), City as Forest (BR), Radio Art Residency Weimar (DE), Oceánica (Tsonami Arte Sonoro + Líquen Lab, CL) e Sound Art Lab (DK). Em 2022, concluiu seu mestrado em Música, na área de Sonologia, pela Universidade de São Paulo, e atualmente cursa um segundo mestrado na Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln.
